It could then be very easy to say L is for L = 50 in Roman Numeral, but why was L chosen as 50.
Possibly it starts with the Etruscan symbol for 10 = X where the half was adopted for 5 = V, or was it the opposite way that V symbolize the hand (with 5 fingers), and 10 = X is two hands.
L has the same shape (more straight) and could be the symbol of half C = 100/2 = 50.
Anyone who believe in this theory?
The last days I have used some photos from Dublin, Irland in my blogposts. It feels natural to continue this practice by adding another Dublin photo today.
L is for Liffey River.
Giacomo Antonio Domenico Michele Secondo Maria Puccini has composed many beautiful Operas: La Boheme, Tosca, Madama Butterfly and the Turandot with the wonderful arie "Nessun dorma" here performed on a YouTube video by Luciano Pavarotti
L is for Luciano Pavarotti
L is for Lemon.
As usual I end up the Wednesday ABC post with some of my own paintings, and today I present some more of my Ladies.
L is for Lady in Red, Lady in Blue, Green Lady and the Lion Queen
For more ABC Wednesday adventurer go to Mrs.Nesbitts Place
Great pictures and a very interesting theory about the Roman Numerals.
ReplyDeleteLiked the picture of the Lifferty River in Berlin most.
Have a nice ABC-Wednesday.
Good thinking on that Roman Numeral possibility.
ReplyDeleteLOTS of ladies and a beautiful river! You went all out!
You may have used up all the Lexicon of words
ReplyDeleteLeave to the Ladies...!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fascinating aray of L's.
ReplyDeleteAm book marking it to come & re-read & follow the links later.
Ahhhh!
ReplyDeleteIs the lady in blue your wife?
The smile seemed so similar!
Very well done.
Her var det mye å lære! Kjempespennende. Også broinnlegget. Veldig bra, og fint å få vist frem operahuset vårt i din internasjonale blogg! Ha en god dag! :-)
ReplyDeleteI am always impressed by the variety in your ABC posts. Your archive must be BIG! :)
ReplyDeleteMy favourite here is the tower in Tuscany and each and everyone of your paintings. :)
Did your wife do some modeling here? Beautiful work! :)
So many art works here. This is enviable, how nice to be in a place like this!
ReplyDeleteA lovely way to show your ladies.
ReplyDeleteYou have many great L's and your paintings are just wonderful. Liked your red, blue and green Lady's and the last one too.
Must be very interesting and funny to visit so many wonderful places:)
I forgot to tell you that your text to day was very ineresting!
ReplyDeleteLovely L's. I LIKE your roman numeral theories.
ReplyDeleteInteresting "L" post.
ReplyDeleteAll are very nice L posts here. You have some beautiful paintings.
ReplyDeleteI have no reason to compete with Mrs Nesbit why do you feel that i am ? Wordless Wed has been around for a very long time. I don't think it is right for you to make that kind of a comment to anyone. Not that i need to explain myself, but i wanted to try something different. I happen to like the Mr Linky option for when there are lots of posters. Since Mrs.Nesbit took it away here it was harder to visit, as it is a pain to go to her site and keep scrolling down to people that have commented. Hopefully it will be better once she puts up a blog roll.
Flott!
I enjoyed!
ReplyDeleteAs always you have an iLLuminating seLection of Ls for your presentation. The Italian photos give me nostalgia, and the Dublin ones make me wonder what I missed in Ireland many years ago. I think my visual memories are more of the countryside, and my city ones of the lovely lady, mother of a friend back home, who hosted us there.
ReplyDeleteAh Mona, wow what a thrill when I got to see her when I was in Paris… great “L” pictures
ReplyDeleteI was lazy compared to you Arne....I stopped at just lemons... and something yummy to make wit them...
ReplyDeleteSo many L's and all great.
ReplyDeleteSo many Ls it is difficult to know what to say
ReplyDeleteof course for Dublin, yes the Liffy.
I recall once hearing why L was used for fifty in Latin but have forgotten now what it was.
love the ladies as always
good L's . I like all the art in Tuscany!
ReplyDeleteWonderful travel photos as usual. I could not even get close to The Mona Lisa at the Louvre because it drew the most crowd several rows deep.
ReplyDeleteA great post! Another set of interesting photos. I really like your art; lovely ladies.
ReplyDeleteNot sure about the Roman numerals. It's all Latin to me. :)
ReplyDeleteLots of nice Ls and nice photos, too. I had never seen the Velasquez Gioconda that I can recall. Did you visit Lucca specifically because it was Puccini's birthplace or is there something else there - besides beautiful architecture and great food? :)
I am so impressed with all the 'l's you posted...I can barely think of One and yours are always so creative....and I am not so sure about the roman numeral theroy!!!!
ReplyDeleteYou've put a lot of thought into your "L" post. Roman numerals, the Liffey (which I find amusing, living where I do!) and so on. I really like your Lady in Blue.
