City motives Oslo and Ålesund

With reference to some of my friends, buildings are one of the types of images I am best in when painting. How to express these motives may vary from canvas to canvas, and today I present two paintings in that genre made last weeks.
This one is from Oslo; called The Cathedral. Acrylic on Canvas (70 x 50)
This one is from Ålesund; called The Cinema. Acrylic on Canvas  (70 x 50)

Two new paintigs are ready to be shown.

The Fortress or Akershus Slott is the name of my last painting. Acryllic on Canvas 50 x 50.

Finished Paintings June 2018

Once again it is time to present my last finished paintings. Three of them have motives from Ålesund and one is an experiment of matching colours through a reorganized selfie.

"Slinningsbua" has been one of the Norwegian coast´s pearls. Due to bad weather I have made the painting without the mountains normally shown in the background. No doubt I love the blue color.

This painting is from the canal as people in Ålesund call Naftadjupet of Brosundet. The storehouses along the sea "Sjøbodene" was built after the city fire in 1904 and have been used for fish-drying and storing up to present time.

Another way of presenting "Brosundet" from Hellebroa to Nørvøya with a full freedom of playing with colors.

Playing with colors (red, blue, yellow, turquoise and white + black)  resulted in this painting too. I call it "Summer Selfie" because the faces in the image became visual when making dots in some of the fields.

Visiting Budapest and what I did not show in previous blogposts, Post three

At the Chain Bridge it is impossible to ignore the lions. The question is however if you are brave enough to check out if the lion has a tongue.

Under the bridge there is a walking tunnel so you can avoid the restricted areas with heavy trafic.

On the other side of the pedestrian passage this sculpture made my attention. High heals in front of the Four Season Hotel
However, the sculpture of the great Hungarian painter Ignac Roskovics (1854 -1915) is my favorite.
The bronce sculpture in the Zrinyi street facing the Basilica, must be the most touched stomach in Hungary
On the Buda side of the river Donau the Semmelweis Museum have large sculptures outside covering the first World War, and showing the horror and suffering of the soldiers. (ps: if possible you should read Rierre Lematre´s novel : Sacrifises)

As we say good night from Donau and Budapest at the end of this blogpost, I hope you have enjoyed the journey together with us from our visit to Hungary. If you found this post first, go further into my blog Life is Great and see the two other posts from the Hungarian Capital together with over 2K other memories from our life.

Visiting Budapest and the so-called must see, Post two

In Budapest there are a lot of "must see" places. I have covered many of them in my first post from the Hungarian capital, but here I give you some more.

On the top of the Andrassy Avenue you find the Millennium Memorial at the Heroes Square.

The Millennium Monument in the middle of the square was erected to commemorate the 1000-year-old history of the Magyars. Archangel Gabriel stands on top of the center pillar, holding the holy crown and the double cross of Christianity. The seven chieftains who led the Magyar tribes to Hungary can be seen on the stand below. Statues of kings and other important historical figures stand on top of the colonnades on either side of the center pillar. (from Wikipedia)

When you take a break for resting your feet or search for a place to have lunch or dinner Budapest is full of interesting restaurants . We named the one below our Secret Garden because you had to go into a backyard to find it.
A visit to the Four Seasons Gresham Palace and it´s Bar and Lobby Lounge can absolutely be recommended

If preferring to sit outside there are many "tents" for shadows or rain. LOW prices all over.

The Grand Synagogue (Largest in Europe) and below the St Stephan´s Basilica (Largest Church in Hungary) we only looked at from outside, but many people talked about them as great to visit

At the end of the blogpost and at sunset, I give you anther image of the Parliament, illuminnated

Visiting Budapest and focus on bridges Post one

I have in many years wanted to visit Budapest in Hungary. My wife was there twice in the 1970s, but could not remember much except the beautiful Cafe New York (earlier named cafe Hungaria)

Last week (May 2018) we spent 3 days in this interesting city and we will in a few blogposts show you what to expect if you deside to follow in our footsteps.

Let us begin with the river Donau and the bridges.

From the Gellert Hill and the Citadella with the freedom statue at the Buda side, the view over Donau and Pest area is magnificent. On this image you see the Margareta Island in the background and the Margareth Bridge close to it. The next and perhaps most famous is the Chain Bridge with the four Lions garding the entrence on both sides.

The Chain Bridge is illuminated in the nigth and the view is great as here seen from a sightseeing boat.
When walking over the Chain Bridge you can see the fantastic Parliament building,
and the river trafic (oil lecter)
Another famous bridge is the green Liberty bridge.
At the Pest side you find the Great Market Hall and on the Buda side the famous Gellert Spa is located

Between the Chain Bridge and the Liberty Bridge you find Elizabeth Bridge leading up to the Buda Hights.

On this image you also can see our hotel situated in the redbrown building up right.

Although we walked and used Hop on Hop off busses and could see the city from above,  the view from the river is the best

This is from the more modern part of Budapest close to the Petofi Bridge
The Parliament building once more and again in the sunset below

The Fisherman Bastion and the Matthias Church is a beauty close to the Castle Hill

On this last image in this post, my wife connect Pest and Buda in front of Elizabeth Bridge her way.
