Fruit trees here and there

Today the electricity and water supplies are turned off at Tullarbo. The leaves are used as cover for roses and everything is clear for snowfall and a cold winter. The next generation owners (?) have helped and we have discussed future development or changes in a warm and sunny afternoon. The apple trees are without fruits, and memories go back to our holiday in Portugal earlier this year. In Faro the oranges in may/june are ready for harvesting.
May be we should plan for another trip to the south, and what about Paris next month.At least you can use Google Map for dreaming.

According to the weather prognoses from Yr.no next week will be full of Strong Breeze and rainy weather in Bergen and Gale at Stad

Urban Photo Safari

In the Royal Garden the last swimming tours can be performed before the water dries out to prevent Ice damages.
In front of the old University students are searching for the low sun beams. It is two months to go until winter solstice and the warmth can still be felt. So also for the Seagull at the top of the faculty of law. and the boats under Akershus at the City Hall Quay have got their winter coats on.

Friday and Lunch with Asbjørn

When Asbjørn is visiting Oslo and his family, he needs some break from the twins, and always find an opportunity to meet me over a coffee or a light lunch. Yesterday his thoughts was far away when I shot his portrait at the Brokers, Borgstadveien with my iPhone. I think it is good, and typical this gentleman.
Since it is Friday and autumn, the yellow leaves on the trees at Ullevål Hospital can be one excuse for joining the meme, but the sky was grey and foggy in the morning.
A new photoblog has occurred in Norway these days; NorskNettFoto. The members intention is to learn by doing and getting feedback from each others. Not open for comments from other visitors, but absolutely worth a visit if you like to get ideas from beautiful pictures.

Yes, it is a year since we celebrated our 30th anniversary when hospitalized in Spain due to severe DVT or Economy Class Syndrome.
An "old" photo from 1977 on the Winterday bring back good memories.

Visiting Drammen

For me the city Drammen 30 minutes from Oslo, has only been a traffic bottleneck from the early days, and a town under the motorway-bridge on the E18-road to and from Southern Norway.
John has through his returning photos of the Ypsilon Bridge (the pride of people from Drammen) made me aware of the city in a different way, and yesterday we took a short ride to his domestic area.
Drammen originally consisted of three small seaports: Bragernes (See church above) on the northern side of the Drammenselva river and Strømsø and Tangen on the southern side.Drammen´s unique geographical location made the city a centre for seafaring, ship building, log driving, timber trade and - from the 19th century - paper and pulp industries.
The Ypsilon Bridge is John´s privilege, but I must admit it is spectacular.
The walking area on the southern bank has in addition to apartments, public offices and cafes, some very interesting sculptures making the environment intriguing.
On the northern bank where the oldest Norwegian Brewery: Aass Bryggeri (photo below) at the moment is preparing for this year Christmas Beer these sculptures can be found:

Timeline and memories

A thousand years ago on October 12th 1008, the Japanese Emperor Go-Ichijō of Japan was born.Many, many years later, when I and my 7th grade classmates had some days skiing in the Standal mountains, Sunnmøre, Yuri Gagarin became the first human in outer space and the first to orbit the Earth.Two years later when Bob Dyland launced his second studio Album (The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan) the schoolmates had changed to both girls and boys, and new challenges became clear for me as a teenager.The latest photo about me and classmates in Ålesund was taken half a year before I left my childhood town and started my competence development and career with the base in Oslo. Some of the persons in the above photos are dead. Some I still consider as very good friends and see them often, but most of them are only memories.

Berlin Wall 1961, 1966, 1989, 2008 and Martti Ahtisari

Today I will focus on the Berlin Wall.
The wall separated the two German states for 28 years and 1 day, from the day construction began on August 13, 1961 until it was dismantled beginning in late 1989. It was considered to be a longtime symbol of the Iron Curtain.
During this period, at least 136 people were confirmed killed trying to cross the Wall into West Berlin, according to official figures. However, a prominent victims' group claims that more than 200 people were killed trying to flee from East to West Berlin.The above photo is taken 3 days after the first concrete blocks began to divide west and east Berlin. The border was closed at Checkpoint Charlie, but still possibilities to drive through. In October the first Panzer Confrontation happened, and you may now see the physical wall in Friedrich strasse behind the control post.

The next photos are taken five years later when I and my fellow students visited the city.Here we all are gathered on the "safe" west side of the wall with Brandenburger Tor behind us

Looking over the wall seeing the DDR guards with dogs and guns and rebuilding of houses in no escape distance. The control post in 1966 and 2008 Today tourists can bring photos with themselves from this point, and some remains of the wall can be seen in different places in Berlin. Artists painted the west side for many years, and parts of the wall are now for sale, or just for promoting the sales.
At Potsdamer Platz you may have your legs placed on the both sides, and study historical photos and text from the "closed" area.
The first hole in the wall in 1989 was in this square and the buildings today are marvelousIt is my hope that the Israeli government understands the possibilities that can emerge if they more active go for peace with the Palestinians and remove the present wall of shame or the West Bank Barrier. The key to removing of the Berlin wall was Gorbatsjov. Can we hope for another key in Obama.
