Bible text and Easter at Iceland

Mattew 27, From the sixth hour until the ninth hour darkness came over all the land. About the ninth hour Jesus cried out in a loud voice, "Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani?"

I am not sure if the two photographers Christoffer Lund and Jo Staube saw any link to the Bible text and Easter when capturing these fantastic sceneries from the Eyjafjallajokull volcano, Iceland, but I cannot find a more visual expression of the canonical Gospel text.

Mathew 28, There was a violent earthquake, for an angel of the Lord came down from heaven and, going to the tomb, rolled back the stone and sat on it. His appearance was like lightning, and his clothes were white as snow.

Revelation 8, Then the angel took the censer, filled it with fire from the altar, and hurled it on the earth; and there came peals of thunder, rumblings, flashes of lightning and an earthquake.

AfterSki - Spring is here and there

To translate "Nu livnar det i lundar" into English is a challenge I leave to philologists with special interests in "New" Norwegian. However, the meaning behind is in a poetic way to describe that winter is over and Springtime has arrived.
I therefore leave the Easter Credo of the crucifying of Jesus and believe some of you have taken that message to your heart during last week. Maybe you find Lucifer in the painting below. If not, return to my previous post and read Tom Egeland´s book.

In the westernmost point of Europe, Cabo Raso, west of Cascais Portugal the beautiful beach flowers have defied the hard climate and show their colors to praise Spring.
In Vienna, Austria the flowers in the parks have because of intensive nurturing come a little bit longer, but it is still early April when this photo was shot
Back to Portugal. This time to Tavira at the south-eastern Algarve coastline where spring-flowers are everywhere.And when the Spring Beauty ( Scilla Siberica ) are blooming in Rosenborg Garden, Copenhagen Denmark,the snow has not left Tullarbo and cover most of the lawn, sowe are heading towards AfterSki at Aker Brygge instead. "Nu livnar det i lundar." It is Spring in Oslo.

AfterSki - Strolling with smile all day long

On Easter Sunday the AfterSki topic is: "Ut på tur aldri sur" (when touring, never moody).
Before I take you on a journey to some of my touring activities since I saved my life through organ transplantation after terminal heart and kidney failure, I will from a bar chair in Singapore wish you all a HAPPY EASTER.
We have used lot of time to experience the pleasure of visiting interesting places around the world ( See the movie The bucket List if you do not understand what I mean).
but since it is snow and skiing most of you combine with Easter, I start with a photo of my wife taken at Bjorli.This photo is also from the same area where old friends from Ålesund use the beauty in autumn colors to walk the mountain.
One of our touring activities went to the fantastic Sandbu Mansion where we had the honor to meet with the owner, the late Kjell Holm.

In Hemsedal where people today are starting to plan the return from cottages and ski resorts, this photo is taken after I reached the peak of Skogshorn 1728m (5669ft). The first major mountain climbing challenge with new organs. See the path in the hillside behind me.After reaching the Høgevarde peak (1459m) whatever windy and cold weather we experienced, you see the true happiness in Tullen´s face. No moody expression here.
However travelling with smiles have brought us to Paris and Musee d´Orsayto Sevilla and Plaza de Espana
to the island of Ischia, Italy where another adventurer, Peer Gynt, may have "stayed". The Norwegian playwright Henrik Ibsen lived on the island for a short period, and is said to have finished Peer Gynt there in 1867.
to Skagen and Grenen the tip of Jutland, the northmost point of Denmark. Grenen was given its name for its shape like a tree-branch (Danish: gren). I could have continued with many photos from Asia, Europe and my own country (like this from Dalsnibba (1476m) above Geiranger), but I end this touring with smiles journey with Tullen (in front of the turning point) and myself at our daily walk at the Paseo Maritim, Fuengirola. New photos from this area will be posted later this year.

AfterSki - Excellent Crime

After a Long Friday of penance and fasting called Good Friday, we once more can celebrate the Easter Eve with a drink and a novel. In Norway most people are reading Crime novels during Easter. Why?

The combination of Easter + Crime = True has become so obvious that people even loved it even milk cartons were adorned by small crime stories on Easter Day. The tradition of Eastercrime has its origins in 1923, when the Gyldendals publisher, Harald Grieg, put an ad that looked like a regular news bulletin on the front page of Aftenposten, entitled "Bergen train robbed last night." The ad advertised for the new crime book to Nordahl Grieg and Nils Lie. More information of Easter Crime can be found in Adressa.no

I have two Crime Novels on my desk this year, both written by receivers of the Riverton Prize "The golden revolver". Kurt Aust in 2003 and Tom Egeland in 2009. Another of my favorite Crime novelists Ruth Rendell received the Riverton International Prize of honor in 1991.

AfterSki - Playing with Yellow

The topic of today in Petunia invites to AfterSki is in Norwegian: "Gult er Kult" (Yellow is cool).
I have chosen a variety of examples linked to the Yellow color and the first can quite clear also be linked to Easter. It show my granddaughter Helene playing with Yellow figures four years ago.

This photo of the blogger himself in Yellow sweater with his back to the calm North Sea is another example of how cool the selected color can be.

The natural color of fresh Italian lemons in the baskets is taken some years ago in Monterosso al Mare/ cinque terre

AfterSki - Christmas goes on till Easter

It´s more than 3 months since Christmas and the famous birth. Time to go for another????
But the main AfterSki photo this Thursday is the leftover lights from Christmas in the trees. Unlighted but ready for next season.

Easter as it was and is

Some years ago (about 40?) I captured this photo when skiing in the mountains with wooden skis, snowman building and having fun with friends.
Today we are strolling the streets of Oslo searching for spring in the light rainy and foggy weather. Why did we not stay another month in Spain.

City Easter Week

Almost no cars parked. Most people moved up to the mountain areas. It is quiet in town. It is City Easter Week.
Later this Easter Petuia invites to After Skiing but why wait until Thursday. For some of us we have After Skiing every day this week.

Starting Easter

When some of or many of our friends are moving to the mountain and their cabins with or without electricity, we are starting Easter with a outdoor glass of wine at Aker Brygge including lunch at Bølgen and Moi with Champagne and their recommended Fish Soup.

Maja ready for touring in Easter

Rikke and Maja are training for strolling the Easter city hunting for Easter bunnies and Easter eggs.
Most of the Norwegians are travelling up to the mountains during the Easter week to prolong the skiing season. That is why the streets of Oslo and the restaurants along Aker Brygge are our favorites. With Maja on Rikke´s or Tor´s back it is easier to move around without using the push chair. Springtime is here within a few days.
