One of Oslo´s most visited landmarks are the Frogner Park with the Vigeland Sculpture Park and the Monolith.
O is for Obelisk (interpreted from Monolitten)
The name Monolith is derives from the Latin word monolithus, from the Greek word μονόλιϑος (monolithos), derived from μόνος ("one" or "single") and λίϑος ("stone") implying the totem to be fabricated from one (mono) solid piece of stone (lith).
The Monolith towers 14.12 meters (46.32 ft.) high and is comprised of 121 human figures rising toward heaven. This is meant to represent man’s desire to become closer with the spiritual and divine. It portrays a feeling of togetherness as the human figures embrace one another as they are carried toward salvation.

Hi Arne,
Wow what memorial as well as the obelisk. Thanks also for the greek lesson. Most days I have to speak greek more than english. I even spoke a little Norsk once, but so long ago.

My first visit to the sculpture park was one of the most artistically exciting times of my life. The obelisk is only the star in the crown of Vigeland's tribute to humanity and its generations. The park is to ordinary sculpture as Tolstoy's "War and Peace" is a three page short story. Thank you for calling it to my attention once again.
What a spectacular obelisk! I can't believe the detail in it and I bet it'd be even better to see it in person!
Wow, I can not even begin to imagine sculpting something that detailed. I wonder who did. I wonder how long it took them! Very cool O! Thanks for sharing!
I have always loved Frogner Park and this obelisk is very beautiful. It was long ago since I saw it last. Isn't it the same as Vigelandspark? Anyway thanks for showing.
Jeg tenkte også på den,men jeg hadde ingen egne bilder. Dette var vakkert. Ha en fin ABC:)
Amazing sculpture and obelisk. Thank you for all the information and its a great picture.
An Obelisk from Oslo! You can't get much more 'O' than that! But I'm concerned for the little figures on the left. Have they been locked out of Heaven?
Amazing O! This looks like an interesting place.
What a wonderful idea to feature the Obelisk for ABC Wednesday for the letter O.
It really is quite spectacular.
Bear((( )))
Hi Arne,
thanks for sharing this "O" with us.
Frogner Park is my favourite place in Oslo. I have been there many times but I discover something new each time.
.. and it is the most intersting place for following people getting into contact with art. Just sitting and watching or thinking or having a personal contact in a differnt way, just touching tentative or sitting and climbing.
Hilsen Hartmut
Indeed man strives for spirituality Arne, inner peace and contentment are treasures. Thanks so much for being part of this.
A splendid Double 'O', Arne. I read about the Park many yeras ago and always thought I would love to see it.
I am now a member of Denise' ABC team, helping out with her rounds - on her behalf, thank you for participating. Bit of a cheek coming from me, you ahve been on ABC longer than I, I believe.
