Beach life in Spanish Winter

The beauty of the Mediterranean Sea seen from beach terraces during winter in southern Spain can fully compete with the beauty of the white clean snow in Norway.
Local fishermen are searching for their catch in the morning and the stormy weather during last night has made the fish coming closer to the beach than normal
The water is curling into the arched form and breaking on the shore giving the turquoise color a green-grey or brown image.
Only trained surfers in special suits dare to enter the waves. No bathing can take place. The temperature in the water is too low at this time of the year.
But not only the temperature is a challenge. The flooding of rivers due to continuous raining and the stormy weather has sent a lot of bamboo and canes into the water. Swimming can be more than dangerous.
However, help is not far away. Maintenance of the beaches are highly prioritized in this country, and tractors are every morning busy with cleaning if necessary.
The great volume of garbage are quickly gathered and taken away by lorries. (Just dream about the ability of removing dirty snow in our "the world riches country" streets at the same time. Once a year?).
Soon thereafter we again can stroll along the Paseo Maritime. Looking at the sea and the beautiful beaches, and stop at our favorite cafe for a coffee, beer or copa de cava. Winter in southern Spain will be repeated. May be even earlier. Come and join us.

"Paintings" to be seen in Malaga, Marbella and Fuengirola

My first "painting" in this post show how nature is composing an abstract image of water and wind in our swimming pool at Hotel Castle Beach.
The next is a huge copy of Picasso´s imitation (1955) of Eugene Delacroix´s Algerian Women (1834) hanging on a house-wall at Plaza Picasso Malaga.
In Kahnweiler's imaginary dialogue, Picasso tells Delacroix: "You took what you could from Rubens and made Delacroix of it. In the same way, I think of you and what I make is my own."
If visitingMy Gallery you will see that I many times have made Picasso´s words my own.
In the old city of Marbella you can visit the church "Iglesia de Nuestra Senora de la Encarnacion" and see this Icon painting. A beautiful image made of gold and pearls.
In a furniture shop selling Ekornes Stressless in Fuengirola this painting was on sale for almost the same (discount) prize: 957 euros. I liked the Miro inspired painting.

The Movie Star - My wife

Those of you who have followed my blog for a while, must have noticed that I love to take photos including my wife. Some years ago I always included her, but when all these blog-memes became an important part of my blogging activity, I made photos of objects instead of stories. I therefore have tuned down the meme participation and increased using Tullen as a model again. The first photo is therefore a good example of how to tell this post´s story and using Tullen by part of that. "Ven a moviestar" or See one.
Shooting her in a shop in Puerto Banus where most celebrities are buying their shoes is another example of presenting the lady with black belt in shopping.Strolling the Paseo Maritim or the Beach Terrace in Marbella together with our "local living" friend Audun Bell cannot be classifies in other ways than "Posh".
However, we can be tourists too. Watching the view over Fuengirola from Mijas,or posing in front of the Plaza Toros in the same city, and taking a brake in front of the open fireplace in a cafe at the same location, show only her beauty in every environment.

My two last photos of Tulen in this post tells the story of the weather variety we experienced. From sun to rain, from warm sunshine to cold, wet and unpleasant conditions.
but all these diversities can be seen through different spectacles and sometimes compared with the alternatives; staying in the cold and heavy snow back in Norway.

Beverage and snacks in Wintertime

Read about winter in Spain, forget about snow in Barcelona and focus on southern Andalusia. The weather may be crazy, but often more than 25 C in the sun. The desire for a cold beer cannot be trivialized. Together with some green olives the life is almost more than great. It is perfect.
If you want lunch at one of Malaga´s many restaurants, you can pick your own products from the Showboat in the street. It is a little more difficult to ask the chef for some harbor fish, but you can feed them for your own pleasure and camera training. They go for everything. Some glass of Cava Anna de Codorniu and some "frezas" (strawberries) from the local marked at the balcony in the afternoon, is a great ending after visiting the Picasso Museum in Malaga

Palm trees in different weather

When staying in Spain or other "sun-warm" places we normally see the palms from below while laying horizontally on hot sun beds and the body full of UV-protection creams.
The weather February 2010 with rain and strong chilly wind reduced the number of sun burning days to a minimum. Not to be crying too much for as a heart and kidney transplanted person.
Transplant recipients, because of the lifelong immunosuppressive medication we must take to prevent graft rejection, are 60–250 times more likely to develop skin cancer than the general population. But the weather is changing fast and at Malagueta Beach in Malaga you can just laze around and relax while eating your fill of "pescaito frito" and/or enjoy a "Copa de Cava".
The Playa de la Malagueta is a popular choice for both locals and tourists for sunbathing and swimming. The La Malagueta Beach is 60 meters wide and 2,500 meters long. It is actually an artificial beach made from sand imported from the Sahara desert. The origin of the palm trees are unknown.
Whatever weather during the day we could however in evenings see both palms and the almost full moon on the blue sky.
Palms are also part of our indoor decorations both here and there. The next photo is from the Olive Museum in Mijas. Almost like home, and for the Interior group of ladies, what about fitting rooms like this at home:

Spring is arriving in Andalusia

The new flowers are coming in southern Spain. Do not ask about names, but feel the same as we did when strolling around and felt the spring coming closer every day. This is from the road between Benalmadena and Fuengirola.
At the Gibralfaro castle in Malaga the Almond trees are in full blossom prior to the arrival of leaves.
In the old city of Marbella the Bougainvilleas are flowing over the house balconies covering part of the old walls
In Marbella´s gardens and parks flowers and sculptures are competing for our attentions.
In Malaga´s "Ramblas" the flowers are for sale at almost no cost. No surprise that the flower lady was proud of her beautiful flower pots.

It is maybe not polite to talk about a woman´s age, but it is not embarrassing to celebrate a birthday looking like this.

Our three H grandchildren i Wales

Today I am in for a 12 years TX control. So many years prolongation of life after heart and kidney failure mid nineties has given me pleasure in experiencing the birth and growth of four grandchildren. Three of them are living in Wales, UK and the youngest Hedda Emilie is developing well after her (as her siblings) too early birth in January. While Helene and Henrik Isak are busy watching a movie or what ever (maybe the father is performing pantomime in their private theatre?), their youngest sister is still at the hospital.
Hedda Emilie is developing great. She is, as a preemie taken good care of by professionals at the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, and has added almost 90% weight since her birth at 647 gr. She is now 6 weeks + 2 days (33 weeks) and about 1225 gr.
It is safe to hold her mother´s hand or finger. We are proud of you all.

Sculptures and statues at Costa del Sol 2

My second serie of Andalusian sculptures you may find in Torremolinos, Benalmadena, Marbella and Mijas.
At Plaza de la Union Europea Toremolinos, there is the Monument to Europe, which is a white marble sculpture of Zeus as a white bull with Europa on his back. According to Greek Mythology, Europa was the beautiful daughter of the King of Tyre, a Phoenician king. Zeus saw her gathering flowers by the sea and fell in love with her. Zeus turned himself into a white bull and knelt before her very gently. Europa climbed on his back and the bull rushed toward the sea and kidnapped her. He revealed his true identity and brought her to Crete where he made love to her.
Another sculpture at a nearby square just outside the most heavy tourist shopping streets, shows this Flamenco trio. Flamenco is an exotic dance, but is actually native to only one region: Andalusia. Flamenco is the music of the Andalusian gypsies and played in their social community.Buddhism is strong in Benalmadena with the West´s largest Buddhist stupa. On our long walk from the train station and down to the beaches we passed this Buddha statue.
On our long (>15 km) walk along the beaches from Benalmadena to Fuengirola we passed this round-about with the Elephant family. It is located between the all inclusive hotel Holiday World Hotel and it´s Beach Club.Another elephant (may be one of Hannibal´s leftovers) can be found at the Beach de Faro in Marbella. He is looking towards Gibraltar which you can see in the horizon if you click on the photo to get it larger.Between the beach and the old city of Marbela you may walk up the avenida del Mar with many beautiful and interesting modern sculptures. At the top you will find the spectacular benches as shown earlier, sculptures by them selves. On the other side of the park the next sculpture are places at the entrance of the old city.
My last sculpture is from the white city Mijas, and of course the statue is white too.
