It could then be very easy to say L is for L = 50 in Roman Numeral, but why was L chosen as 50.
Possibly it starts with the Etruscan symbol for 10 = X where the half was adopted for 5 = V, or was it the opposite way that V symbolize the hand (with 5 fingers), and 10 = X is two hands.
L has the same shape (more straight) and could be the symbol of half C = 100/2 = 50.
Anyone who believe in this theory?

In the Basilica di San Frediano in Lucca you can visit the mummified body of Saint Zita.

Her var det masse interessant L stoff. Toscana er ein av plassane eg drøymer om å reise til i nær framtid. Spennande å lese om St. Zita også. Du er veldig flink å komme med tillegsinformasjon til det du skriver om.

I have no reason to compete with Mrs Nesbit why do you feel that i am ? Wordless Wed has been around for a very long time. I don't think it is right for you to make that kind of a comment to anyone. Not that i need to explain myself, but i wanted to try something different. I happen to like the Mr Linky option for when there are lots of posters. Since Mrs.Nesbit took it away here it was harder to visit, as it is a pain to go to her site and keep scrolling down to people that have commented. Hopefully it will be better once she puts up a blog roll.

As always you have an iLLuminating seLection of Ls for your presentation. The Italian photos give me nostalgia, and the Dublin ones make me wonder what I missed in Ireland many years ago. I think my visual memories are more of the countryside, and my city ones of the lovely lady, mother of a friend back home, who hosted us there.

Lots of nice Ls and nice photos, too. I had never seen the Velasquez Gioconda that I can recall. Did you visit Lucca specifically because it was Puccini's birthplace or is there something else there - besides beautiful architecture and great food? :)

You've put a lot of thought into your "L" post. Roman numerals, the Liffey (which I find amusing, living where I do!) and so on. I really like your Lady in Blue.
